Taxation, Benefits & Global Trade

PERSONAL TAX ALLOWANCE AND BENEFITS

A single person should be allowed £12,000 before tax is chargeable. A couple could claim £24,000 between them; that is to say if one isn’t working, the other claims both allowances. A married couple could add £2,000 - for a marriage allowance making it £26,000 to encourage a stable family life. Any tax losses to the Inland Revenue could be reclaimed by increasing VAT.

Child Benefit

Child benefit should only be paid on the first two children, it would appear that some people believe that having more children brings you more money.

Housing Benefit

If housing benefit did not apply to the private sector, rents would drop. No benefits would be payable above £300 a month; this could apply from the next time one moved form/to the private sector. Capital used for housing benefit could be used for landlord repair grants. Those who pay rent in social housing for 30 years or become the age of 60 should then only pay an admin and repair cost.

Unemployment

Unemployed people would become eligible for a local work service whereby they would be on call for any work that might be needed to be done. For every £50 they receive in benefit they would be available for a day’s work.

Global Trade

Most of the world has relied on China for cheap goods, destroying their home employment. There are more people in China than there are in the whole of Europe. China should be an economy within their own borders and there is a need to rethink the global trade. Fair trade, not free trade, would be one solution. We still have a system where a few people are able to create employment, yet still do not pay their workers proper wages. A profit share scheme for more than 20 employees should be established.
