ABOUT OUR CO-OPERATIVE

Many people would like to have a small holding and have a few animals and grow organic produce, but the cost of purchasing a property for this is beyond most people’s affordability.

We have the opportunity to purchase a property of 200-300 acres in East Sussex.

If you would like to be part of this, you can become a member of the community farm for the investment. This would allow you and your immediate family to visit the farm and take part in growing the fruit and vegetables, as well as looking after the livestock.

There is a need to have a paid, on-site labour force to work the land on a day-to-day basis, but if you are at the site, you will be more than welcome to help with any work that may need to be done at that time. As a member, you can camp on site (either bring your own tent, caravan or motorhome or use one of our yurts) to enjoy the countryside, being close to wildlife and natural habitats.

There will be activities for groups to take part in, along with workshops and debates on a number of issues. Events are mainly May to September.

OUR PLANS

Apple, pear, and plum trees will be planted in addition to other fruit bushes. The crops will be harvested, and members will be invited to collect for their own use, with any excess being frozen for use in the winter months to be made into produce to sell. Vegetables and salad crops will also be grown, and there will be a service for members to have their produce delivered directly to their homes at market price.

Cattle and sheep will be reared, and members will be able to visit to see livestock and buy home-reared meats as well as free range eggs. Out buildings will be converted into café-style areas equipped with freezers to store produce grown on the farm. With an organic farm, we can produce organic cheese and butter, as well as some organic soups from the surplus produce to sell to the shops and on the home delivery rounds.
